Help import crossings generated from crossify.

This project is documented in the wiki.

Focus on only importing the crossings that look good.

When saving your work, please leave the default comment but add what you actually mapped, for example "added buildings and a residential road".

  1. Import crossings file for area
  2. Add the bing background
  3. look at every crossing against the basemap, delete any crossings that are unacceptable. aka go through all the crossings, delete any that seem to be not be a logical place a person would cross
  4. Download data around crossings (Expert mode, use the overpass query) Overpass Query: [out:xml][timeout:25]; ( way["highway"~"trunk|primary|secondary|tertiary|unclassified|residential|living_street|service|footway|cycleway|pedestrian"]({{bbox}}); node["highway"="crossing"]({{bbox}}); ); out meta; out body; >; out skel qt;
  5. Validate (Shift-V), fix duplicate nodes.
  6. Select all the crossings that were imported (Add the Author tab, select all that are "New Objects), hit select Way nodes) Control-Shift+N to select adjacent nodes, ZOOOOOM ALL THE WAY IN, then hit 'J' to snap nodes to sidewalks.
  7. Validate again
  8. Fix overlapping ways and self-intersecting ways errors.
  9. Select only the crossings we imported again and then add intersecting nodes (select the crossings we added, hit i to select the intersecting ways, and then shift+i to add intersections), then tag intersecting nodes with highway=crossing
  10. Make sure intersections were added to the right places.
  11. Validate, fix outstanding overlapping ways errors
